Summer in the USA: Chicago

This week, we’re wrapping up our Summer in the USA series with a glimpse into the bustling Midwestern metropolis of Chicago. Find out why this is such a popular destination for students who choose to spend their summer studying English in the USA.

Why is Chicago a perfect summer destination?

Nestled on the shores of Lake Michigan, Chicago is one the most vibrant cities in the US. This Midwest hub is known for its art and theater scene, its diverse neighborhoods and amazing food options.

Our English school in Chicago is located very close to some the city’s most popular attractions: Millennium Park, Navy Pier and Buckingham Fountain. From afternoon strolls around Navy Pier, free movies and concerts in different parks around the city, to festivals such as the world-famous Lollapalooza, your summer in the Windy City is sure to be a memorable one.

How to spend a day like a local?

One of the best ways to spend your day is exploring a neighborhood you’ve never visited before. Pilsen, a picturesque neighborhood in Chicago’s Lower West Side, is a favorite of both locals and tourists. The area is known for its colorful houses, street art, art venues like the Urban Art Society and authentic Mexican fare – plus, in the summer, Pilsen is a popular spot to find the city’s best food trucks.

A meal you can’t miss

Two words: deep-dish pizza. While Chicago is currently a hub for the American culinary boom with bistros and food trucks rapidly emerging, a slice of thick, cheese-dripping deep-dish pizza is still a beloved Chi-town staple. Lou Malnati’s in River North and The Art of Pizza in Lakeview are two drool-worthy choices you can try.

You can’t deny, Chi-town residences love and embrace every second of their summer – compared to the drastic winters it’s a whole other world! Whether you’re at a Chicago Cubs baseball game, trying out some of the city’s award-winning cuisine, or just walking through one of the city’s many street fests, you’ll have plenty to do during the summer season.
